Know Yourself: The Delphic Oracle

The Delphic oracle was frequently consulted by political leaders, law makers, and wisdom seekers, but her replies never exempted them from an exercise of their own freedom. The oracle's words were true but cryptic. Much skill was required to find the correct interpretation.

Thus the oracle's prophecies were generally framed so as to include her clients in the determination of their own future.
